Position Summary
The Vice Principal and Judaic Studies Curriculum Coordinator is a key academic and spiritual leader at Hillel Community Day School, responsible for ensuring excellence in Jewish education through a rich, inquiry-based curriculum and a values-driven school culture. This role focuses on academic excellence in Judaic Studies, community building, and cultivating global citizenship rooted in Jewish identity, the IB PYP Learner Profile, and a deep connection to Israel.

Working closely with the Head of School and the General Studies Curriculum Coordinator, the Vice Principal designs and leads a Judaic Studies curriculum that reflects Torah learning, love of Israel, Hebrew language, and core Jewish values. The role involves guiding faculty, supporting students, and helping lead daily operations in alignment with the school's mission and IB PYP philosophy.
Key Responsibilities
Judaic Studies & Hebrew Language Curriculum Leadership

  • Lead the development and implementation of a cohesive, inquiry-based Judaic Studies curriculum, including Torah, Tefilah, Chagim, Middot, Israel, Jewish history, and values.
  • Ensure the curriculum reflects the school's commitment to academic excellence, Jewish ethical development, and a love of Israel.
  • Oversee Hebrew Language instruction as part of the broader Judaic Studies curriculum.
  • Ensure integration of Jewish values and Hebrew language within the transdisciplinary IB PYP framework.
  • Support faculty in creating engaging lessons that foster Jewish identity, critical thinking, and global citizenship through the IB Learner Profile.
    Faculty Mentorship & Instructional Leadership
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor Judaic and Hebrew teachers through regular observations, feedback, and co-planning.
  • Provide professional development to deepen staff skills in Jewish pedagogy and Hebrew language instruction.
  • Facilitate faculty collaboration to ensure shared ownership of the school’s Jewish mission and cohesive curriculum delivery.
  • Coordinate scheduling and substitute coverage for Judaic and Hebrew faculty.
    Spiritual and Community Leadership
  • Plan and lead joyful, inclusive Tefilah experiences, holiday programs, and lifecycle events that reflect pluralistic Jewish values.
  • Serve as a role model of Torah, Avodah, and Gemilut Chasadim in daily interactions with students, staff, and families.
  • Partner with Shinshinim, Shlichim, and guest educators to bring Israeli culture and global Jewish perspectives into the school.
  • Foster a vibrant school culture rooted in kavod (respect), kindness, and curiosity.
    Student Support and Development
  • Work closely with the Student Support Team to guide student growth through a values-based lens.
  • Promote social-emotional development and positive behavior using Jewish texts and IB Learner Profile traits.
  • Celebrate achievements in both academic and character development.
    Operational and Strategic Leadership
  • Support the Head of School in managing daily school operations, routines, and staff communications.
  • Serve as Acting Administrator in the Head of School’s absence.
  • Participate in the Safety and Emergency Response Team.
  • Collaborate on long-term strategic planning for Judaic and Hebrew programming.
    Family and Community Engagement
  • Communicate regularly with families about students’ Judaic and Hebrew learning progress.
  • Represent Hillel’s Jewish values and educational vision in the broader community.
  • Build relationships with local clergy, educators, and Jewish organizations to enrich school programming.
    Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Jewish Education, Hebrew Language, or a related field (required).
  • Fluent in Hebrew and English, with demonstrated expertise in Hebrew instruction.
  • 3–5+ years of teaching experience in Judaic Studies and/or Hebrew Language, ideally in a Jewish day school setting.
  • Deep knowledge of Jewish texts, holidays, values, and Israel education.
  • Experience with curriculum development and teacher leadership.
  • Familiarity with the IB Primary Years Programme or other inquiry-based learning models (preferred).
